ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Austin, Texas, Brenda Pettit has been connected to art since childhood, drawing inspiration from masters such as Vermeer, Chardin, Fantin-Latour, William Merritt Chase, Sargent, and Emil Carlsen. Her artistic path deepened through her marriage to artist Mark Pettit and extensive painting travels throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. A 2002 trip to Tuscany inspired her to begin painting in oils—a practice she continues to pursue with passion.
Brenda focuses primarily on traditional still life, painting from life whenever possible to explore the interplay of color, texture, and light. She often incorporates objects from her personal collection alongside natural elements to create balanced, expressive compositions. Based in Ridgway, Colorado, she also works in plein air, inspired by the surrounding San Juan Mountains.
Her work has been included in national and international exhibitions, including multiple Oil Painters of America shows and Greenhouse Salon International exhibitions. Her work is currently represented by Mountain Trails Gallery in Jackson Hole, WY and Bozeman, MT.
